Anambra Police Caution Public Against ‘Jungle Justice’

The Police Command in Anambra has called on the public to restrain from unleashing mob action, otherwise known as ‘jungle justice’, on criminal suspects.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the call is contained in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, in Awka on Friday.

NAN reports that the press release was apparently in connection with the three robbery suspects allegedly burnt to death by angry mob at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

The command, through the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Chris Owolabi, condemned with great concern, the increase in cases of mob action in the state.

The CP advised the public to take such suspects to the nearest police station to afford the police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigations into all alleged activities of the suspects.

Owolabi promised that those found culpable after thorough investigations would be brought to justice in accordance with extant laws.

While urging the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, he advised them to call or disseminate useful information by dialling the command’s control room numbers: 07039194332 or 08039334002 and Emergency No. 112. (NAN)
