ChatGPT Fires Back at Musk Criticism

Musk

OpenAI, makers of ChatGPT, has fired back at Elon Musk’s lawsuit, revealing he wanted ‘full control’ of company.

Musk is suing the company he helped found, alleging it has abandoned its original mission of helping humanity and focusing on generating profits for partner as well as major investor Microsoft instead.

But OpenAI said Mr Musk previously backed the idea of a for-profit structure and even suggested a merger with his car firm Tesla.

In a blog post on its website, OpenAI claimed that Mr Musk at one point wanted “absolute control” of the company, before eventually leaving it in 2018.

According to OpenAI, the disagreement started back in 2017 when they decided to create a for-profit arm to raise money to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) – the holy grail of making machines as smart as humans.

“We all understood we were going to need a lot more capital to succeed at our mission—billions of dollars per year, which was far more than any of us, especially Elon, thought we’d be able to raise as the non-profit,” the blog stated.
