National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to launch a self-service application that will allow Nigerians in the diaspora enroll for their National Identification Number (NIN) without hassles.

Ayodele Babalola, technical adviser to the DG/CEO on media and communications revealed the initiative in a statement on Monday.

The development happened during a strategic meeting between Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and Abisoye Coker-Odusote, NIMC director-general.

Babalola added that the application will go live in February.

The statement read: “As part of the process, a dedicated Diaspora Focal Point Desk will be established at the NIMC office to ensure swift resolution of issues within 24 hours,”

“This customer-centric approach aims to provide efficient support to Nigerians abroad in line with the agency’s commitment to quality service delivery.

“The strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in leveraging technology to enhance the accessibility of critical identity services for Nigerians in the Diaspora.”

The statement said Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude to the NIMC delegation for the innovative solution, saying it is a forward-thinking strategy.

The NiDCOM chair highlighted the significance of the new system and hailed its capability to easily link NIN with international passports for Nigerians residing outside the country.

In response, Coker-Odusote said the initiative aligns with her commitment to enhance service delivery and create a hassle-free system for Nigerians abroad.

She thanked NiDCOM for its support and expressed confidence in the success of the collaborative endeavour.
