Church member drowns during church beach hangout in Lagos

A man drowned on Saturday, Oct. 28, during a church hangout in Elegushi Beach, Lagos State.

The 34-year-old man identified as John was at the beach for a picnic organized by an Ikorodu-based church for its youths.

After the picnic, as members prepared to leave the beach, they noticed that John was missing.

While searching for him, someone mentioned that they had seen him go into the water.

Lifeguards and divers were alerted but efforts to locate him in the water that Saturday proved abortive.

His body was recovered by lifeguards at the beach on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 31.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to Punch.

The Superintendent of Police added, “The family of the victim has been contacted and the body of the victim has also been deposited at the Yaba General Hospital for an autopsy.”
