Fleeing Anambra gunmen abandon weapons and car

Two pump action guns and a Mercedes Sports Utility Vehicle have been recovered by Anambra police command after being abandoned in a ditch by suspected kidnappers.

The car was chased by policemen attached to the Forward Operating Base on patrol along the Uga-Ezinifite Expressway in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, after they noticed that the driver was driving at a dangerous and suspicious speed.

The car which was subsequently taken to Area Command Headquarters in Uga, is a Mercedes GLK 350 4matic with number plate ENU484JV.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement;

“On Thursday, August 3, 2023, at about 8.30pm, a detachment of police-led Forward Operating Base at Aguata while on patrol on the Uga-Ezinifite Expressway saw an SUV drive past at a terrible speed. Suspecting that they may be kidnappers with an abducted victim, the team went in pursuit.

“Several kilometres later, the team found the vehicle in a ditch but without any occupant.

“They found clothing with blood stains in the vehicle as well as two pump action guns and a machete. The vehicle, a wine-coloured Mercedes GLK 350 4matic with number plate ENU484 JV was recovered and deposited for safekeeping at Area Command Headquarters in Uga.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye has ordered a full-scale investigation to locate the owner of the vehicle.
