    Court

A 30-year-old woman, Joy Okonkwo, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba for allegedly instigating area boys to attack and beat up a hotel owner.

Okonkwo is facing one count of breach of peace preferred against her by the police.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Kokoye Olusegun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 26, 2023.

He said the incident happened around 6pm at Ajala Bus Stop, Ijaiye in the Ojokoro area of Lagos State.

He said the owner of the hotel, Andrew Arikhan, gave the defendant a space in front of his hotel to do her business but over time she turned “a bad girl” and resorted to verbal attacks on the complaint.

He added that the defendant engaged some area boys to deal with the defendant because he sent her way from the space he gave her.

Olusegun said the defendant was charged to court when all efforts to resolve the matter proved abortive.

According to him, the offence committed contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs S. I. Obasa, granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till August 25, 2023, for mention.
