Lagos Govt seals Valuepoint supermarket over sale of expired products

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has sealed Valuepoint Supermarket over the continuous display and sale of expired products.

This is in furtherance of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the drive to ensure consumer protection and safety from the purchase of expired and unwholesome products.

Speaking on the enforcement operation, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, Esq explained that the aim of the exercise is to ensure that stores and supermarkets, who have at various times flagrantly disobeyed the lawful directive of the agency against the sale and display of expired products, are forced to comply with the law.

“Despite several public enlightenment campaigns and warnings by LASCOPA, Store managers still sell expired and hazardous products which are dangerous to human health in contravention of the State Government’s directives on the sale of unwholesome goods,” he said.

He reiterated that the State Government has zero tolerance for the sale of hazardous and expired products and will not fail to initiate litigation against any store or supermarket found culpable.

Solebo assured that the present administration will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring the protection and safety of consumers in the State. Just as LASCOPA will continue to promote consumers’ rights.

Recall that last week, a LASCOPA monitoring team led by the General Manager of the Agency, Afolabi Solebo Esq., sealed Cynosure Supermarket in Ajao Estate area of Lagos State over the display of expired products on their shelves.

The team had, similarly, issued a Non-Compliance Notice to the Valuepoint Supermarket located in the Estate for the same offense.
