Popular Nigerian Lawmaker Slumps, Dies In South Africa

Hon. Nnamdi Okafor

The lawmaker representing Awka South Constituency I in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor is dead.

Information has it that Hon. Okafor collapsed in the early hours of August 23, 2022 at Standton City Johannesburg, South Africa and was confirmed dead hours later. Cause of his dead yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.

Hon. Okafor, was until his death, Anambra State House of Assembly Majority Leader.

Some members of the House, names withheld confirmed this in a phone call at early hour of Wednesday, August 24.

They described as grievous and heart-breaking, the news of the death of the lawmaker.

“The news of the death of one of the most active, vibrant, and resourceful lawmakers in the Anambra House of Assembly, Hon Nnamdi Okafor, the majority leader came to everyone as a rude shock.

Friends and colleagues are deeply saddened and grieved by this painful and untimely exit of one of them. This is unbearable. He was a patriotic, selfless, and hardworking lawmaker who gave his best for the service of Anambra State House of Assembly, his constituents, and indeed the entire people of Anambra State.”.

The late lawmaker is also described as a peace-loving and easy-going gentleman who was admired by all.

According to friends, we just lost a bridge-builder, a man of peace, and a gentleman par-excellent. He will be sorely missed by every one of us,” they said.

Friends noted that the dedicated and selfless nature of Okafor, as well as his quality representation in the House, earned him the return ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance ( APGA ) in the Awaka South I State Constituency.
