Irabor Pledges Improved Security in Oil Producing States

General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defense Staff says renewed understanding and commitment from governors of oil–producing states will help address security challenges in the oil and gas sector.

Irabor said this at the end of the meeting with the governors of oil-producing states and the heads of security and intelligence agencies on Friday in Abuja.

He said that the result of the meeting with the governors was fruitful and added that it would help the Federal Government to make decisions that lead to increased productivity in the oil and gas sector.

Irabor said the collaboration would provide greater security to the region where oil and gas exploration takes place.

“I think that in the future, Nigerians will see the change,” he said.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that Irabor on Friday called a meeting with governors of oil-producing states to discuss ways to address security challenges affecting oil production in the country.

also reports that the governors of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Abia were present, those of Edo, Imo and Ondo were represented.

Also present were the heads of the security and intelligence agencies of the CDS, the Inspector General of Police, the General Directors of the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency and the Chief of Defense Intelligence.

Others are the Commanding General, the Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps and a representative from the NNPC.
