Ravenewsonline reports that the Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, says the state is expanding its digital infrastructure to improve connectivity and support entrepreneurship, healthcare, smart-city services and public safety.
Hamzat said this on Saturday at PODFEST NAIJA 2026 held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said the state had laid more than 3,000 kilometres of fibre infrastructure between 2019 and 2025 and was approaching its target of 6,000 kilometres.
According to him, the expansion was being implemented through the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), with a 22 million dollar direct investment for additional cable expansion.
Hamzat said the fibre network would support faster content uploads, reduce costs for startups and improve access to digital services for schools, health centres and hospitals.
He said hospitals were also being connected to enable patient records to be retrieved across locations using patients’ names and record numbers.
On public safety, the deputy governor said the state was investing in security and technology infrastructure to support economic development.
He said the state was deploying geographic information systems, 5G-enabled smart poles and other smart-city technologies to manage infrastructure and data.
According to him, about 650 cameras had been deployed out of a target of 3,000, with further expansion being carried out in phases.
Hamzat said the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) was supporting at least 90 research and development projects.
He added that more than 200,000 small and medium-sized businesses had received N15 billion in loans and grants, alongside financial and skills-development support.
On transportation, Hamzat said the Blue and Red rail lines had changed the way thousands of Lagos residents travelled.
He said about 6.2 million Lagosians use Cowry Cards, adding that the state was working toward a unified payment system covering bus rapid transit (BRT), ferry and rail services.
The deputy governor said the initiatives were part of the state government’s broader efforts to build a connected and digitally enabled Lagos.
