Mr Dasuki Arabi, Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, has said that Nigeria was ranked third in Africa, in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by an agency known as A-K Technology in Africa.
Arabi said this at the opening of a workshop on blockchain technology ecosystem on Wednesday, in Abuja, that Egypt and South Africa were ranked first and second, respectively.
The director-general said the hope of the bureau was that Nigeria would supersede the current ranking and be among the first 20 in the world.
He assured that the public service reforms by the present administration would facilitate improvement and acceptance of e- governance by all agencies, stressing that the workshop was meant to engender general buy-in by the agencies.
He said the participants were expected to develop a robust roadmap for the implementation and adoption of block chain technology in the public service.
Arabi said that the national e-government master plan had been approved and already at implementation stage by different sectors of the public service, adding that blockchain technology had also been captured in the e-government master plan
“What we are trying to do is to sensitise Nigerians and the public servants, so we can come up with the roadmap for implementation of block chain technology.
“The ledger and blockchain are the same, what we are happy with is adopting this technology to give us the privilege for accountability and transparency,” he added.
He said that the bureau will further work with MDAs to break the bureaucracy and allow them to participate in governance with a click of a button, pledging that by 2030, Nigeria would go paperless and performance will be measured electronically.
“Government has introduced the performance management succession planning and mentorship.
“The aspect of performance management will be covered digitally and it means there would be no more APER Forms and everything would be done electronically,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the occasion was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and Nigerians Communications Commission, with two nominees each representing all public service institutions that participated in the workshop.(NAN)
