The Dunamis International Gospel Center refuted media reports about his alleged involvement in the arrest and detention of anti-Buhari protesters on Sunday.
A statement released on Wednesday by Church spokesman Dr Adah Ochowechi in Abuja stressed that the Church did not participate in the arrest and that protesters were not arrested at its premises.
It was reported that some suspected anti-Buhari protesters stormed the church on Sunday and were apprehended and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Reacting to the incident, the church distanced itself from any involvement in the alleged arrest, stressing that it remained resolute in its advocacy for human rights, justice and freedom.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading legend in the media space regarding the arrest and detention of young people in our church on Sunday July 4, 2022.
“The story spread is that some young people wearing a t-shirt with the #BuhariMustGo branding just came to church and went to the altar as beginners and were arrested by the church and turned over to DSS.
“Nothing can be further than the truth. The church holds three services each Sunday and the senior pastor, Dr. Paul Enenche, preaches in all the services.
“After the first service sermon on this Sunday, an altar call was made to which many people came out, including the said young people, and nothing happened to them,” the statement said.
The church added that after the service, the group jumped into action and began to protest, shouting trumpets and saxophones from the church’s exit door.
The statement pointed out that the protest was broadcast live with the background photo of the church building.
“It sounds intriguing for many reasons: no one knew who they were or where they came from.
“No one knew the organization they represented or their ultimate program until DSS apprehended them.
“No standard rules of engagement were followed because they just snuck into the church and protested on a holy day of service.
“Moreover, the church is not a field of activism but a center of projection of the truth against all forms of evil.
“The church is apolitical and non-partisan and therefore is not a suitable ground for political protests. It is not the seat of government where the people against whom reside reside, ”he said.
The statement further reads: “We wish to categorically state that the Dunamis International Gospel Center has no part in the arrest and detention of the said young people as they were arrested outside the premises of the church.
“The church does not have the right to arrest and detain people and has no custody. The right of arrest and detention rests with government security agencies. “(NAN)
