    UNILAG lecturer accused of raping 20-year-old female student in his office

    Dr. Kadiri Akeem, a lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has been accused of raping a 20-year-old female undergraduate.

    The victim accused Dr. Babalola, an Associate Professor of Botany, of perpetrating the crime when she visited his office to sort out issues pertaining to her results.

    The victim, who reported the case to an NGO, the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, said that Babalola raped her on August 16, 2023.

    The NGO reported the case to the Gender Unit of the state Police Command.

    Through the OC Gender, the Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, issued a warrant of arrest for Babalola through the state High Court.

    The Vice Chancellor of the institution was given seven days to produce Babalola.

    When the VC invited the lecturer for questioning, he admitted to committing the crime.

    The VC informed the police through the Chief Security Officer of the school and Babalola was arrested.

    Spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident said that the suspect has been arrested.

    “He is to appear in court in the coming days,” the PPRO added.
