Twitter said Sunday that it permanently suspended the personal account of Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for violating the platform’s Covid-19 disinformation policy.
The Georgia lawmaker is a strong and fervent supporter of Donald Trump and his false claims that the 2020 elections were stolen, and is also known for making outlandish claims against vaccines and other false statements about the coronavirus pandemic.
Twitter said it was shutting down Greene’s personal account, @mtgreenee, for repeated violations of its Covid disinformation policy. He still has access to his official Twitter username, which is @RepMTG.
Greene used the staff more often.
“We permanently suspended the account you referenced (@mtgreenee) for repeated violations of our COVID-19 disinformation policy,” Twitter said in a statement sent to AFP.
“We have made it clear that under our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy,” he added.
Twitter did not specify exactly what Greene said to deserve this punishment.
Greene responded after his suspension, saying in a statement on Telegram that Twitter is “an enemy of the United States and cannot handle the truth. Okay, I’ll show America that we don’t need them and that it’s time to defeat our enemies. “
Twitter’s Covid disinformation police employ a strike system that imposes increasing penalties for breaches.
One hit does not result in anything, for example; three strikes result in a 12-hour account lockout, and five strikes result in a permanent suspension.
Twitter had sanctioned Greene before the permanent suspension.
His account was suspended for a week in August after he tweeted that the Food and Drug Administration should not approve Covid vaccines because they were “failing” to slow the spread of the virus.
On Saturday, he tweeted that vaccine deaths used to be taken seriously in the United States, but now “an extremely high number of deaths from covid vaccine are ignored and government forced vaccination mandates are increased.”
A year ago, Twitter banned Trump from the platform after the January 6 riot in the United States Capitol by Trump supporters, who were enthusiastic about his claims that they stole his victory over Joe Biden.
