US President Donald Trump has predicted that the ongoing war with Iran will end “immediately” after the United States holds its midterm elections in November.
Trump made the statement on Wednesday while speaking to journalists, claiming that Iran would no longer be able to sustain the conflict.
“I think the war will end immediately after the election,” Trump said, adding that Iran “can’t hold out any longer.”
The US president also accused Tehran of being “desperate to try and affect” the outcome of the midterm elections.
Trump did not provide further details on why he expects the conflict to end immediately after the elections or explain what developments he believes would lead to an end to the fighting.
His comments come as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, with the conflict continuing to attract international attention.
The US midterm elections are scheduled to take place in November, with voters expected to elect members of Congress and determine the balance of power in Washington.
