Times Journalism Alumni Association (TJAA) has received with shock the demise of one of the nation’s mass communications icons, Prof. Olayiwola Oso.
TJAA, a group of old students of Times Journalism Institute (TJI) Lagos, recalled that Prof Oso was on the academic faculty of TJI in the 1990s.
Reacting to the news of Prof. Oso’s death, TJAA president, Mr. Clifford Agugoesi, described it as huge shock and monumental loss as he will be greatly missed by the media industry, especially the journalism profession.
Agugoesi, who also is the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Cyber Era NG, prayed for the repose of late Prof. Oso’s soul and fortitude to the family and friends he left behind, including but not limited to members of TJAA, who will miss him sorely.
Former TJI Director, Dr. Ndubuisi Ugbede in his condolence message, said Prof. Oso was a renowned trainer with readiness to offer a helping hand especially in mass communication matters, not minding the inconveniences.
Former Tourism Editor at Champion Newspapers, Pastor Ifeanyi Uhuegbu, noted that the late professor taught m in the Post-Graduate Diploma class, recalling Prof. Oso’s two books that blessed and enriched them while at TJI.
“ May our good God through His holy spirit comfort his beloved ones left behind,” Uhuegbu said.
Equally, another old student, Mr. Olamiju Oretola of 1995 set of TJI, said it was a privilege to have passed through late Prof Oso at the institute, “he was a facilitator in media training” and prayed for eternal peace for his departed soul.
Further, TJAA recollected that late Prof. Oso was a communication and media studies teacher, rising to the post of Deputy Rector at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta and later moved to the Postgraduate School of Communication at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State where he served as a Professor of Communications and later, the Lagos State University, Ojo just to mention a few of his academic career.
He died at the age of 67 years in a motor accident along Abraka, Delta State on his way to Lagos after a conference. He is survived by a wife and children.
