Ten Killed in Plateau Attacks, Communities Demand Urgent Security Intervention

At least ten persons have been confirmed dead following separate attacks in Riyom and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State between Friday and Saturday.

The attacks, which occurred in Kwi and Pushit communities respectively, have sparked renewed calls for security reinforcement in the region.

Rwang Tengwon, a community leader in Riyom, told Ravenewsonline that the Kwi community was invaded on Friday night by suspected armed militia, resulting in the death of seven residents.

“One person was also killed on his farm Saturday afternoon, and another attack happened later that night,” Tengwon said.

In Pushit, Mangu LGA, three persons were reportedly killed in a separate incident. The Mwaghavul Development Association confirmed the attack in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Friday Derwan.

“We call upon security operatives in our local government area and Plateau State to rise to the challenge of curbing these unwarranted assaults on innocent lives,” the statement read.

Local residents have expressed concern over the frequency of attacks in the area, urging both state and federal authorities to deploy more security personnel and initiate peace-building efforts.

Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.

Ravenewsonline reports that Plateau State has witnessed recurring violence in recent years, often attributed to communal clashes and land disputes.
