    Teacher arraigned in court for flogging nine year old pupil with a cane

    A 35-year-old teacher identified as Aderonke Makinde has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, for allegedly flogging a nine-year-old girl, Oyinkansola Kayode, with a cane at her school located in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

    The police prosecutor, DSP Ajayi Kehinde, told the court that Makinde is facing one count of assault and that she committed the offense on March 28, 2023. The charge sheet read;

    “That you, Aderonke Makinde, on March 28, 2023, at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District did assault one Oyinkansola Kayode, nine-year-old by flogging her with a cane and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

    When the charge was read to her, Makinde pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, E. Kubenje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case was adjourned till June 7, 2023.
