Swiss Bar Owners Probed for Evidence Tampering After 40 Die in Sparkler Blaze

Jessica Moretti, 40, and husband Jacques Moretti, French owners since 2015, stand accused of abandoning patrons as sparklers on champagne bottles ignited the ceiling around 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2026.

Witnesses reported Jessica Moretti carrying the cash register amid chaos, while investigators cite the couple for blocking Facebook and Instagram accounts between 3 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.—during ongoing rescues—along with taking the website offline, per lawyer Romain Jordan representing burn victims, many teenagers.

Jordan, speaking for 116 injured, demanded accountability from prosecutors and Crans-Montana council after officials admitted no safety inspection occurred since 2019, despite Jacques Moretti’s claims of regulatory compliance and three prior checks.

The Morettis expressed devastation in a Tuesday statement, pledging cooperation and denying evasion of responsibility, as cellphone, security, and streetlight footage reconstructs the inferno that overwhelmed the basement venue’s narrow exits.
