Sexual abuse: CSO urges Tinubu to sack NCC Director

A Civil Society Organization, CSO, under the umbrella of Women Liberation has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to sack a Director at the Universal Service Provision Fund under Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), identified as Yomi, who allegedly sexually abused the daughter of a former presidential aide.

The National President of the group, Mrs Aminat Alabi-Adeshina said the sacking of Yomi will serve as a warning to men who are taking advantage of vulnerable ladies/girls working in their offices.

Alabi-Adeshina lamented that such an unholy act is happening in many offices of the state and federal ministries, agencies and parastatals with no one saying anything about it.

The woman activist called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of urgency sanitize the NCC by calling to order the Director in question.

News Hub recalls that Sahara reporters had earlier reported that the agency’s management is attempting to cover up the incident and sweep it under the carpet.

However, Women Liberation under the leadership of Alabi-Adeshina has said the matter should not be buried but thoroughly investigated to bring the culprit to book.

She further made a passionate call to the first Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu to equally join the fight against women liberation

Alabi-Adeshina expressed worry that a similar situation occurred during the tenure of the previous Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Danbatta but it was covered up vowing that this one will not be allowed to die a natural death.

In her words, “No way, we must fight it to the end, we can’t continue like this no matter what. I’m begging the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack him if he is guilty of the offence.

“I’m equally calling on the First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu to also join in the fight and struggle. Ma this is women’s issue and we need you to support our liberation at the workplace, in our homes and the larger society.” Alabi-Adeshina said

Recall that the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) No 19 of 2003, Part IV established the Universal Service Provision (USP) and mandated the Board to supervise and provide broad policy directions for the management of the USP Fund. Section 118 of the Act established the USP Secretariat and states that it shall reside in the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and shall be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Universal Service Provision. Pursuant to this mandate, the USP Fund started operation in August 2006 and has embarked on various projects.
