President Buhari Reassures Commitment to Tackle Insecurity

President Muhammadu Buhari assured Monday in Abuja that no effort would be spared to fight against insecurity in the country and bring its perpetrators to justice.

The president assured at the All Progressives Congress (APC) youth conference with the theme; “The future is a decision”.

The President was represented at the conference by Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The conference, the first of its kind in the history of the APC, brought together young representatives from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“As you all know, we are currently facing internal security challenges and I want to reassure you that as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces no effort will be spared to address them.

“As I have said repeatedly in recent weeks, every criminal element that has taken up arms against the peace of the country and its citizens will be brought to justice accordingly.

“I am happy to see that we are starting to see results and that we continue to improve until the country is rid of these divisive elements,” he said.

Buhari, however, pleaded with Nigerians not to be discouraged or slack off on the common task of nation-building.

He stressed that we have no other country but Nigeria, adding that it is everyone’s responsibility to work for the development and advancement of the country.

He advised putting aside the unpleasant experiences and controversies of the past, as we forge a better future for the country.

This, he added, could be achieved through patience, persistence, love and empathy for one another, regardless of tribe, language and religion.

Buhari also gave assurances that the APC would remain bound by the principles of its manifesto and constitution.

He expressed optimism that the conference would be an opportunity to create a movement, saying that “the future is a decision we make today”.

He added that realizing the need to create a legacy that would stand the test of time, the conference was therefore very timely.

This, he said, was all the more true as it happened shortly after the exercise of registration of party members and before the start of its congresses from the neighborhoods.

“I am quite confident that our deliberations today will have a noticeable impact on the activities of the party and even spill over into my administration,” President Buhari said.

He noted, however, that while the party’s constitution and manifesto may not be perfect, they were crafted to ensure that elected and appointed party members conduct themselves in the most responsible manner possible.

He maintained that the party will continue to implement and execute policies that are not only beneficial but just for all Nigerians.

“So far, all policy initiatives, projects and even appointments by this administration have been guided by fairness and inclusiveness.

“There is in fact no part of the country which has not been positively affected in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture and the economic support initiative based on the peculiarities of the regions”, a- he declared.

The Chairman explained that what was missing in one area in one aspect was made up for in another.
