Police Rescue Abducted Woman in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman who was abducted from her residence in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Friday.

According to Edafe, the woman was abducted on Wednesday while attempting to drive into her compound. The suspected kidnappers, who had reportedly laid an ambush at the entrance, seized her and took her into a nearby bush after firing several shots into the air.

He said the incident was reported to the police, prompting the Sapele Divisional Police Officer to immediately mobilise patrol and surveillance teams to the area.

“Upon receiving the report, the Sapele Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered,” Edafe said.

The police operatives, working alongside local vigilantes, subsequently launched an intensive search of the surrounding bushes.

According to the spokesman, the search continued throughout the night and into Thursday morning, forcing the abductors to abandon their victim and flee after sensing the approaching security teams.

“Sensing danger on Thursday morning, the abductors abandoned the victim and fled,” he added.

Edafe said the woman was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family.

He added that the police had intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes involved in the rescue operation.

Earle also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations and decisive action against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across Delta State.

He urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and tackling criminal activities.
