    Police arrest notorious phone snatcher in Nasarawa, recover 71 SIM cards

    Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a notorious phone snatcher, Zahraddeen Ja’afaru, a resident of the Angwan Jaba area of Lafia, the state capital.

    Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made this known in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Lafia.

    According to the statement, the suspect was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the ‘A’ Division, Lafia of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday that thieves broke into a house behind Sabo Garage, Lafia and carted away three mobile phones and a power bank.

    “Police operatives attached to the said Division carried out a comprehensive investigation which led to the arrest of one Zahraddeen Ja’afaru ‘M’ of Angwan Jaba, Lafia. A search warrant was executed at his residence where four (4) stolen phones and a power bank were recovered,” the PPRO stated.

    “Furthermore, seventy-one (71) SIM cards of different network service providers were also recovered as exhibit,”

    The police spokesman added that the “suspect has confessed to being responsible for a series of house-breaking/theft and snatching of handsets from members of the public in Lafia and its environs”.

    Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada has tasked the Divisional Police Officer to go after the suspects’ accomplices, arrest them, and charge all to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
