Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra, said the party remains focused on conquering the state in the next governor’s ballot.
Nwobu said this in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Awka on Tuesday, adding that he would not be distracted by those trying to destabilize the party in the state.
He commended the party’s National Executive Committee for successfully organizing parish conventions in the state.
He described the success of the exercise as a sure step towards free, fair and credible party primary elections.
“We want to conduct our primary election, where the party people will vote freely and produce a candidate who will be acceptable to the people of Anambra in the ballot on November 6.
“Now is not the time for distractions. We are focused on taking over government from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
“The party has cheated millions of Anambra in terms of governance.
Nwobu said he remained the valid chairman of the PDP in Anambra, after emerging from a valid process that was upheld by a Federal High Court in its May 24, 2018 judgment.
He said the judgment had not been overturned by any higher court and that he had not been “insensitive to any court judgment”, which allegedly returned him.
“My leadership remains, no superior court has overturned this judgment and a court of coordinated jurisdiction cannot.
“Our team of legal experts takes care of it. The decision to appeal will be notified, ”said the president of the PDP.
NAN reports that Chief Chukwudi Umeaba announced this weekend that he had taken over the party in the state as the interim chairman of the Guardians Committee.
Umeaba, who announced the suspension of parish congresses, said his action was based on the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to him, the judgment handed down on June 9 overturned the process that produced Nwobu’s leadership. (NAN)
