Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen was forced off with a suspected muscle injury during Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig clash against Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday night.

Osimhen, who started the match at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium, gave Galatasaray an early lead when he scored in the 16th minute.

However, the Nigeria international was unable to continue after appearing to suffer an injury and was substituted in the 33rd minute. Turkish forward Barış Alper Yılmaz came on as his replacement as Galatasaray’s medical and technical teams awaited further assessment.

The goal was Osimhen’s sixth of the season, extending his impressive run of form for the Turkish champions. He had also provided three assists before the latest setback.

The injury could raise concerns for the Super Eagles, with Nigeria preparing for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign later this month.

Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar on September 23 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau four days later for their second qualifying fixture.

Osimhen has become a key figure in Nigeria’s attack, making his fitness particularly important ahead of the upcoming qualifiers.

There was no immediate official confirmation from Galatasaray regarding the severity of the injury or how long the striker could be sidelined.

Further medical examinations are expected to determine the extent of the suspected muscle problem and whether Osimhen will be fit to feature for Nigeria in the forthcoming matches.
