NYSC Organises Free Medical Outreach for Lagos Residents

On Monday, residents of the Ayobo-Ipaja community gathered in their hundreds for the free medical awareness organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC ) in the area.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the sensitization planned for June 21-23 has been labeled: “Rural People’s Health Initiative”.

It was organized by the NYSC in Lagos State, in collaboration with the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Zone (LCDA).

In his remarks, Mr. Eddy Megwa, NYSC State Coordinator, said the idea was to provide medical assistance to people at the base.

Megwa said the three-day health awareness will be carried out by members of the body, especially those in the medical profession.

“Beyond the deployment of corps members to perform services in their main duty stations, we have also decided to bring this commendable initiative closer to the population.

“We are here today in Atan Kekere, tomorrow it will be held in Baruwa, and Wednesday at the Olorunisola Palace; therefore, we expect more participation as medical checks and drugs will be administered free of charge.

“Over the years, NYSC had made many milestones in ensuring that we bring program services to Nigerians’ doorstep.

“This is what we have done in the areas of health, education, infrastructure development and social services,” he said.

Another beneficiary is assisted by a member of the company.

The state coordinator said members of the body were tested, approved and approved by Nigerians.

“The international communities have also commended their efforts to participate strongly in various elections in Nigeria, and in general nation-building,” he said.

Megwa said arrangements had been made to take the initiative to travel quarterly, and primarily to rural areas.

“Our goal is for everyone to benefit from these health services, and we are going one step further by creating community clinics in various communities, as well as a clinic within the NYSC secretariat.

According to him, plans are also underway to set up clinics in some of the NYSC area offices.

He said as many as three million people have benefited from the program since the health initiative began.

Meanwhile, NYSC General Manager Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Shuiabu, represented by Ms. Prescilla Akhamie, Deputy Director, praised the collaboration of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, as host, with the program.

Shuiabu said the support would provide an environment for the program to contribute its quota to address the health challenges of the masses, especially those at the grassroots, ”he said.

In addition, Ms. Bola Shobowale, Vice President of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, praised the imitation of the program, urging community members and beneficiaries to expand awareness.

According to her, the health care initiative program, implemented with free medicines, would go a long way in helping people to know their health status.

“It is a wonderful and commendable initiative; people here go home with the knowledge of their health, believing that they will spread the good news, ”she added.
