Plans are at top gear to commence admission of new students at the newly established Sports University Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State as the National Universities Commission on Thursday 12th May 2022 presented an operational license to the academic institution.
The founder and Chancellor of the university, Prince Ned Nwoko in company of friends and associates was at the NUC headquarters in Abuja where the certificate was presented.
This will be the first Sports University in Nigeria and Sub-Sahara Africa.
Our correspondent gathered that the school will also run conventional university programmes in addition to Sports and students will graduate with double honours. Admissions are expected to commence 2022/2023 academic year.
With this development, Sports University can now start full operation as the structures are springing up very fast at permanent site in Delta State. This has been described as a big win for the sports community in Nigeria and Africa.
Regina Daniels, wife of the billionaire founder of the University had taken to her Instagram page to announce this piece of news.
She wrote, “Join me to congratulate my husband once again as he received the approval certificate for the sports university, Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State”.
According to her, “This is a huge win for all sports men and women in Nigeria and in Africa as at large. The goal is to provide an enabling high-tech environment for the training of world class sportsmen and women akin to a model of excellence in sports and academics.”

Ned Nwoko include, Olympic Gold medalist and police officer, Chioma Ajunwa, John Fashanu, Fmr Minister of Youth & Sports Solomon Dalung, The Project Implemention Committee Chairman, Prof. Nduka Uriah, The University Project Coordinator, Mr Godwin Osigbeme, Mr Chuks Anyaduba and host of others.
