Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said it has commenced investigation into a serious incident involving a B737-400 with nationality and registration marks 5N-MBD operated by Max Air, which occurred around 14:57pm Sunday.
The agency made this known in a statement issued on Monday by Tunji Oketunbi, general manager, Public Affairs.
The Max Air aircraft, with 144 passengers and six crew members onboard was en-route Abuja from Yola when it had a burst tyre on landing on the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
First responders arrived at the accident site and evacuated the passengers, with no injury or fatality recorded.

“The NSIB, hereby, solicit information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to help assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.

The Max Air flight with 143 passengers and one infant on board, departing from Yola on May 7, experienced two tyre bursts upon landing on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport runway Abuja.
The development caused panic among the passengers onboard but the emergency response team at the airport quickly responded and put out the quickly responded.
Dr Mike Ogirima, former president of the Nigeria Medical Association, who gave an account of the incident reportedly said that the incident the occurred after takeoff at Yola Airport.
Ogirima said, “We are still on the runway and the pilot has reassured us. He has called for the stairs and we are now disembarking from the runway to be evacuated to the airport building at the arrival hall.
“We bless God because we have witnessed the pull out of the tyre right from the airport in Yola and we went into a prayer session.”
A statement from the airline read: “We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board the aircraft are safe and sound. The airline has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the passengers are comfortable and are being taken care of during this time. They have been conveyed to the arrival terminal with their luggage and belongings.
“The aircraft tires are being replaced and the aircraft will taxi to the ramp for further investigations before being released for future flights. The airline would like to extend its appreciation to the airport authorities, emergency services, and all relevant agencies who responded promptly and professionally to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew on board.”
