NIMC Warns Nigerians of Fake NIN App Currently in Circulation

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has raised an alarm over fake app for NIN download in circulation.

The Commission in a Twitter post warned the general public to be aware of such app that claims to help link the National Identity Number to SIM cards.

The Commission also denied knowledge of the app, saying it is run by fraudsters who use it to harvest people’s NIN and Bank Verification Number.

It maintained that “The app was not created by NIMC or the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is run by fraudsters who are currently harvesting people’s NINs and BVNs by default,” and surged the public to protect their data and stop disclosing personal information to unauthorised persons or platforms.

Recall that the Commission recently unveiled a mobile app that can be used to link seven SIM cards to one NIN.

According to the NIMC, interested subscribers with NIN number will only download it without visiting any office.

It has the capacity to link up to seven SIM numbers to only one.
