Following the removal of the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, citizens went online to celebrate the end of an era of using “Virtual Private Network”, VPN, to access Twitter.
They also noted that lifting the suspension was necessary as the platform would be important to promote the country’s activities in preparation for the upcoming general elections in 2023.
Ejiro Amoh, a Computer Science graduate from Abuja University, said she appreciates the Federal Government for lifting the Twitter ban to curb the spread of fake news.
“The federal government said it banned Twitter due to fake news and the conditions that Twitter met before lifting the ban were made public.
“I just want the government to continue its good work making sure that those who steal our common wealth are also punished.
“Just as they (officials) have held Twitter accountable, our political office holders who steal our funds for their personal use must be held accountable using our laws.”
An IT expert and trainer, James Fred, said that the lifting of the Twitter ban came at the right time, as many online businesses that relied heavily on Twitter had suffered setbacks.
Fred said the federal government’s previous decision to ban Twitter drew widespread criticism as online businesses posted huge losses.
He noted that the ban was met with lawsuits filed against the FG and the National Assembly by some social media users.
He urged small businesses that suffered lost revenue and opportunity during prohibition to maximize another opportunity they now have to recover.

“They should implement creative promotions to help them with recovery,” said Fred.
For Sheidu Jacob, a public official “I forgot my password and since then I had deleted the application from my phone, but now with this news, I immediately re-downloaded the application and it started working.
NAN reports that the federal government lifted the suspension of Twitter operations in the country after six months of the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The lifting of the suspension came into effect from 00:00 on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
