Ndume Decries Renewed Boko Haram Attacks in Borno, Seeks Military Reinforcement

Sen. Ali Ndume (APC–Borno South) has expressed deep concern over renewed Boko Haram attacks in parts of his constituency, calling for urgent military intervention to safeguard lives and property.

Ndume, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday in Maiduguri, condemned the killing of four farmers in Kwam village, near Dille community in Askira Uba Local Government Area, while they were harvesting crops.

He said the attacks, which occurred within the past week, also affected Pemi and Shikarkir communities in Chibok Local Government Area, where churches, shops, and vehicles were set ablaze.

“In Shikarkir, seven persons were killed, including a woman and her children, two daughters of a pastor, and the wife of Mr. Smith Shikarkir with her baby,” Ndume said.

The senator described the situation as worrisome, attributing the resurgence of attacks to the inability of security agencies to maintain presence in remote communities.

“I am very much perturbed over the renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of my constituency in the last week,” he said.

Ndume commended Gov. Babagana Zulum for his swift response in directing the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other stakeholders to provide relief materials to the affected communities.

He also appealed to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, to deploy additional troops to the affected areas.

“I commiserate with the people of the affected communities, especially the victims, while appealing for immediate military intervention to protect those under perpetual Boko Haram attacks in the state,” he added.
