Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have inked a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding to sharpen data protection and privacy standards across Nigeria’s sprawling telecommunications landscape.

The formal pact, unveiled at a stakeholder-packed ceremony, signals ironclad regulatory teamwork amid explosive digital expansion, placing personal data shields front and centre in the telecom arena.
NDPC National Commissioner Dr. Vincent Olatunji hailed the collaboration as non-negotiable for breakthroughs: “Meaningful progress in this area is only possible through effective collaboration and cooperation between regulators. Prioritising privacy in the telecommunications sector cannot be overstated.”
Dr. Olatunji spotlighted NCC Executive Vice-Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida’s trailblazing push with mobile operators on privacy compliance, declaring such leadership vital for embedding a data protection culture industry-wide.
Dr. Maida reciprocated, stressing global stakes: the NCC stands resolute in enforcing the Nigeria Data Protection Act across its turf, with both watchdogs vowing immediate MoU rollout through joint enforcement and citizen data ramparts.
The alliance turbocharges Nigeria’s digital trust architecture, aligning telecom giants with privacy mandates to power secure innovation from Lagos boardrooms to rural cell towers.
