Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Bayelsa State Command have arrested a notorious illicit drug distributor in Yenagoa, seizing hard drugs worth approximately N3 million.
The suspect, Chimezie Collins, popularly known as Mezico and owner of MEZICO Pharmacy along Mbiam-Yenagoa Road in Kpansia, Yenagoa, was nabbed after being on the command’s watchlist for two years.
Recovered items include 1,030 tablets of controlled substances like Tramadol 200mg, Tramadol 100mg, Swinol/Rophnol, Diazepam, and Molly—a designer drug—totalling 1,900 tablets/caplets. Additional seizures comprised 150 bottles of Diazepam and pentazocine injections, plus 77 bottles of codeine weighing 12.461kg.
SN Daniel Obah, Public Relations Officer for NDLEA Bayelsa Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, April 2, describing Collins as an “unrepentant notorious drug distributor.”
State Commander Kanu Sunny Chukwuemeka praised his officers’ professionalism in the intelligence-led operation. He commended NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) for visionary leadership, and thanked Bayelsa Governor Senator Douye Diri for robust support in curbing drug supply and demand.
Kanu warned drug dealers and traffickers to quit or face the full weight of the law, reinforcing NDLEA’s commitment to a drug-free Bayelsa.
