During the engagement, key NCC principals engaged with top state officials to explore collaborative opportunities in telecommunications infrastructure, digital inclusion, and regulatory support for telecom service expansion across the North-Central region.

The visit aligns with NCC’s ongoing stakeholder outreach to align federal telecom policies with state-level development priorities, particularly in underserved and rural communities.

Present at the meeting were Deputy Director, Legal and Regulatory Services, NCC, Lawrence Abang; Plateau State Deputy Governor, Josephine Piyo; Executive Governor, Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang; Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, NCC, Rimini Makama; and Director, Digital Economy, NCC, Helen Obi.

The discussions reportedly focused on accelerating broadband penetration, enhancing digital skills training, and fostering public-private partnerships to bridge the connectivity gap in Plateau State, where terrain challenges and security concerns have historically hampered network rollout.

Governor Mutfwang, represented in photo from left to right alongside the NCC team, reaffirmed the state’s readiness to partner with the commission on initiatives that would boost economic growth, e-governance, and youth empowerment through ICT.

NCC’s proactive engagement with sub-national leaders comes amid renewed federal push to achieve 70 per cent broadband coverage nationwide by 2027, with states like Plateau playing pivotal roles in hosting critical telecom infrastructure such as towers, fibre optic routes, and digital innovation hubs.

Industry observers note that such visits often pave the way for spectrum auctions, right-of-way clearances, and consumer protection frameworks tailored to local needs, ultimately benefiting residents with improved service quality, lower tariffs, and wider access to mobile financial services.

The commission’s Media Relations Manager, Ayiabari Kigbara, highlighted the visit as part of routine stakeholder management, thanking partners for their support in advancing Nigeria’s telecom revolution.
