NCAA grounds Rano Air after one of its aircraft suffered engine failure midair

Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered the immediate grounding of Rano Air aircraft 5N-BZY following an engine failure incident.

During operations, smoke was seen in the cabin and cockpit of the plane carrying passengers from Kano to Sokoto due to an issue with engine 1.

The flight crew responded by putting on oxygen masks right away and initiating all necessary emergency protocols in order to ensure a safe landing. Fortunately, the smoke cleared up before the plane touched down, and the flight captain managed to land it safely and without any more problems.

Following that, the Directorate of Airworthiness of the NCAA mandated that aircraft 5N-BZY stay grounded until all safety investigations were completed. In order to identify the source of the engine problem and the smoke, the agency has since dispatched its engineers to inspect the aircraft on the ground.

The NCAA has reaffirmed that, even in cases where disruptions cause flight operations to be hampered, it will not compromise on adherence to aviation safety protocols.

The Authority stated that Nigerian aviation’s safety record remains solid, despite the challenges of operating in a developing environment.

According to NCAA, countries with more advanced aviation infrastructure still report more severe incidents than Nigeria experiences.

“5N-BYZ is still on the ground with engineers working on it. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, prioritizes safety. The records are clear. More advanced countries have worse air incidents than Nigeria because, here, flights will get cancelled if there is the slightest concern about safety,” the NCAA stated.
