National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has rescued a total of 170 trafficked persons in various operations across Borno State.

The Zonal Commander, NAPTIP Maiduguri Zonal Command, Muhammad Danlami, disclosed this on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Danlami, who was represented by an official of the agency, Dauda Joseph, during an event organised to commemorate the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, said the victims who were rescued between January and July were mostly women and children.

He said the event provided an opportunity to sensitise participants to how to identify the tactics of traffickers, who, he said, mostly used fake employment opportunities.

“In Borno, we have six convictions of human trafficking and standing cases in the court, which is almost 17, while rescued victims are 170 between January and July 2025,” he said.

“Most of the victims are women with minimal cases of children who are lured through employment scams and others,” he said.

“Today, we are raising awareness for every invitee to know how human trafficking is being organised so that they can see those traces of human trafficking and know what is expected of them as citizens.”

The Deputy Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Borno State, BW Usman, said the Federal Government had deployed necessary technology to combat trafficking in border states.

“Under the leadership of the Controller General of Immigration, we have deployed technology to monitor the movement of persons, in and out of Nigeria,” he stressed.

While listing recent successes, he said through the technology deployment, “victims have been rescued and handed over to NAPTIP, and investigations have been launched. So, we are assuring everyone that we are not leaving any stone unturned in Borno and other places.
