Mo Bimpe Reacts to Backlash Over Viral Video With Jide Awobona

Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has responded to social media criticism following the circulation of a video showing her interacting with her colleague, Jide Awobona.

The clip, which was recorded at the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos, showed Mo Bimpe seated between Jide Awobona and her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji.

In the video, the actress was seen leaning on Jide’s shoulder while looking at something on her phone.

The interaction sparked reactions online, with some social media users scrutinising the exchange and suggesting that Lateef appeared uncomfortable.

The incident subsequently generated discussions about boundaries, trust and appropriate interactions between married people and members of the opposite sex.

Mo Bimpe Defends Her Marriage

Reacting to the criticism in an Instagram Story on Sunday, Mo Bimpe said she found it surprising that an ordinary interaction between friends had been interpreted as something inappropriate.

The actress argued that marriages are not all built around suspicion, control or insecurity.

“Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she said.

Mo Bimpe added that the reaction to the video reflected the type of relationships some people were accustomed to.

“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she said.

She further maintained that healthy marriages still exist, despite the negative experiences some people may have had.

“Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate,” she added.

Defending her husband, the actress described Lateef as a secure man who was not threatened by her interaction with a family friend.

“My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern,” she said.
