To promote the vast richness in African culture, and accentuate the importance of fashion in film, The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards announced its second runway show. The show follows the ‘Design For Stars’ competition held last year, and is part of the three-day line up of festivities in celebration of the ninth edition of the awards.

The runway show will allow fast-rising and young designers to showcase their unique style and pieces at the event and in front of industry A-Listers. The runway show will be held simultaneously with the annual nominees gala and take place on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The participating designers have been narrowed down to the top four and are currently being coached by established designer, Mai Atafo.

Here’s what you need to know about them:

    1. Emmanuel Goodnews is a young individual who lives his best life in his introverted mind, standing out among all odds and changing narratives through his personality and the clothes he makes. He is a 25-year-old wardrobe consultant, fashion stylist and designer, whose work has featured on America Vogue, GQ Magazine and others. He has styled popular influencers like Priscilla Ojo, Enioluwa, Diana Eneje, Allysyn, Susan Pwajok, and more.

    1. Udiahgebi is an emerging luxury brand that explores topics of authenticity using sensuality, glamor, and edge as its major elements. Their risqué garments are gender inclusive and provide an avenue for self expression for the wearer while still oozing sophistication. The founder, Emerie Udiaghebi, 26, creates pieces for people who feel most comfortable in their femininity – men, women, and gender non-conformists.

    1. Funmibi Olayinka is a creative fashion designer and stylist that creates glamorous and ready to wear clothing for women. The designer has styled celebrities like Foluke Daramola, Neo Akpofure, and Wathoni Anyasi. She also styles beauty pageant outfits, beautiful dinner dresses, and creative photoshoot looks with her signature draping style.

    1. Ayobami founded ‘Statement By Bami’, a womenswear brand, to cater to women by providing ready to wear and bespoke outfits. The 27-year-old offers ready to wear pieces at relatively affordable rates as well as custom made dresses from ‘Aso-ebi’ to ‘dinner dresses’, as requested.

The designers will be showcasing their pieces at the AMVCA runway show and nominees gala on Friday, May 19, 2023, and we are absolutely excited about it. For more information about the ninth edition of the AMVCAs, visit www.africamagic.tv.

The event is part of the 3-day celebration that will hold from Thursday, May 18, to Saturday, May 20, 2023. The AMVCAs will round up with the awards night on Saturday, May 20.

Don’t miss the ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards live on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv from 16:00 WAT (17:00 CAT)  on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
