Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has impounded 78 trucks for indiscriminate parking in the Apapa-Ijora area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq.

According to the statement, the vehicles were impounded by LASTMA officers in an enforcement operation that started on Sunday, Dec. 17.

The operation was done in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure smooth and seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond.

Adebayo quoted the agency’s acting General Manager, Mr. Bakare Oki, as saying that the enforcement actions would be ongoing, and indiscriminate parking and obstructions in the axis would not be tolerated.

He urged drivers to take control of the road and to contact the agency’s hotlines to report any abandoned or broken-down trucks.

The statement partly read, “Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today during an early Sunday morning enforcement operation led by General Manager, Mr. Bakare Oki, in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure smooth/seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond, impounded another 78 illegally parked containerised trucks on top High Bridge by Lilly Pond inward Apapa and Sifax axis of Ijora (Olopa).

“The early Sunday morning enforcement operations lasted between 12 am to 7 am. According to Mr. Bakare Oki (G.M LASTMA), the enforcement operations will be continuous with zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and impediments in the axis.

“He, however, called on motorists to take possession of the road and not hesitate to inform LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck via the agency’s hotlines.”
