LASG Unveils ‘Kampus Stars’ TV Reality Show

The Lagos state government on Friday launched a reality TV show called ‘Kampus Stars‘ to address youth concern and make the state a hub for talented youth.

Ms. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, during the opening ceremony in Alausa, Ikeja, said that the project would help discover talented and creative minds in various higher learning institutions.

He said the project was a reality show with a difference that would help young Nigerians channel their energy into positive use.

Akinbile-Yusuf said the fair was organized in conjunction with Content Warehouse Ltd.

“With the presentation of the Lagos Kampus Stars, we will celebrate the versatility of the various higher institutions in Lagos State and the abundance of creativity and talent in our young people.

“We are using this program to further harness the inherent creativity of the people of Lagos and establish the state as a vibrant and innovative tourism destination that diversifies the economy, creates jobs in multiple segments of tourism and offers the world access to ingenuity and hospitality from the neighbors,” he said.

Akinbile-Yusuf said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as a lover of youth, pays special attention to youth-related initiatives, especially through exemplified capacity building.

He said that the governor was working on modalities to create sustainable growth and development for youth not only in tourism, entertainment, arts and culture, but also in educational empowerment and skills acquisition.

Akinbile-Yusuf said the goal was to transform youth restlessness into a productive enterprise, adding that youth made up more than 65 percent of the country’s population.

“As we all know, young people are the strength and vigor of a society.

“We believe that young people are not only the future of tomorrow in Lagos State and they must participate in our development plans to achieve the necessary balance in our society.

“In addition to the fun among the participants, the program will further engage our young people to use their immeasurable intelligence and creativity to start a better life, which is part of our Governor’s dream and vision,” Akinbile-Yusuf said.

Previously, a renowned film producer, Tade Ogidan, head of the project’s technical team, explained the modalities of the entire reality show.

Ogidan said the entrants would be selected from different colleges within the state and after a series of auditions, 18 finalists would be selected and housed for eight weeks.

Participants would visit eight ministries in Lagos State to learn about the operations of each ministry, after which they would each compose music based on what they learned in any of the ministries, guides, and musicians.

He said that the entrant with the best music would be the overall winner and would be rewarded with a new car and a cash prize of N10 million.

“We will have Governor Sanwo-Olu as the chief judge along with other specialists in that area.

“Within the eight weeks that it is supposed to last, the beauty of Lagos state would have been exposed to the world and gradually the state would be creating a future hub of talent,” Ogidan said.

Mr. Solomon Bonu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, said the event would be an opportunity for the young participants to be the next Davido.
