    Land Scam: EFCC Charges Man for Allegedly Defrauding in-law of N3m

    The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, arraigned Yakubu Musa before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna for criminal misappropriation.

    A statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the defendant allegedly collected the sum of N3million from one Thalmon Friday sometime in 2014, for a plot of land at Mahuta area in Kaduna State but diverted the fund as the complainant who happens to be his in-law neither got the said land nor a refund.

    The one-count amended charge reads: ” That you, Yakubu Musa sometime in 2014 in Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly misappropriated a certain property to wit: the total sum of N3, 000,000.00(Three Million Naira) only, property belonging to Thalmon Friday, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 of Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 1991 and punishable under Section 309 of the same Law.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

    Upon his plea, the prosecution counsel, Maryam Lawal urged the court to fix a date for trial to commence. But the defendant’s counsel, Haruna Magaji, prayed the court to grant his client bail.

    The judge, after hearing arguments from both counsels, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2,000,000.00 with one surety in like sum.
