    Lagos Govt. Shuts Dowen College Over Student’s Death

    The Lagos state government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, in the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., A student at the school.

    Ms Folashade Adefisayo, Commissioner for Education, in a statement on Friday, announced the closure after a meeting with the school’s management and staff.

    Adefisayo said the shutdown was pending the outcome of an investigation into the student’s death.

    She called for calm and said that every effort would be spared to get to the root of the incident.

    Reports alleging that the 12-year-old boy died mysteriously after being tortured for refusing to join a cult group had been discredited.
