Kayode Olowu Appointed to the Loeries Design Jury 2021

Kayode Olowu, founder and Creative Director of Lagos creative agency Onewildcard has been appointed to the design jury of the Loeries Awards for 2021.

The revelation was made on the Loeries official website and Instagram page as part of a series of announcements for this year’s edition of the event.

Olowu trained at the Miami Ad School Europe, where he won several awards including D&AD, ADC, and YGA.

Though a Bachelor’s degree holder in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Olowu’s passions were elsewhere and he soon found his way into the creative industry.

Before founding Onewildcard, Olowu spent time at some of the top agencies in Germany, including THEY, Amsterdam; Y & R, Prague; and Geometry Global, Hamburg; where he worked with world-class brands.

During his time at Jung von Matt / Elbe, Hamburg, Olowu was part of a team that developed an idea that won Gold at the TROY awards.

Some of his other awards and recognition include Graphis and Luerzer’s Archive Special (200 Best Packaging Design Worldwide).

Before Olowu’s appointment, only a handful of Nigerians have ever been invited to take up jury duty at the Loeries. With his appointment, Kayode Olowu further stakes a claim as one of an elite class of Nigerian creatives who continue to make a mark beyond the shores of Nigeria.

In 2019, Onewildcard received a total of six nominations at the Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival [LAIF] out of which the four-year-old Lagos agency carted home three awards. It has since gone on to do even greater things including a finalist spot at the 2020 Loeries award.

Kayode Olowu was appointed alongside Greg Quinton, Chief Creative Officer at SuperUnion, Hyunseo Yoo, Senior Creative (Art & Design) at TikTok Creative Lab METAP, Simone Rossum, Executive Creative Director at Joe Public Shift, Ashraf Majiet, Creative Director at Superunion, and Julia Carew, Interior Designer, Senior Architect at Boogertman.

Others include Kassie Naidoo, Creative Director & Partner at Lampost, Brian Steinhobel, Industrial Designer at Steinhobel Design (Pty) Ltd, Jineil Kandasamy, Executive Creative Director & Partner at Grid, Brian Mtongana, Design Director at Woolworths, Martina Bogusch, Creative Director, Designer at Xfacta, Mikara Naidoo, Senior Architect, Service Designer, Lecturer at Freethinking Business Consultants (EOH), George Rautenbach, Creative Partner at Sunshinegun and Catherine Kruger, Creative Director at HKLM Connect.

The Loeries which first took place in 1978 in Johannesburg, South Africa is a year-round focus on creative inspiration – helping marketers, agencies, and consumers appreciate the value of ideas and fresh thinking.

Its signature event, the Loeries Creative Week brings together Africa’s creative minds to recognize the best work from across Africa and the Middle East. The event features a week of celebration, comedy, remembrance, innovative insights, and networking with industry colleagues.

The Loeries Creative Week 2021 kicks off this October in Cape Town, South Africa.
