The CEO, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, was on Saturday October 23, 2021, sworn-in as the 14th Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON).
The swearing in ceremony which held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja had in attendance; the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina; Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe; Registrar, Advertising Practitioner of Nigeria (APCON), Dr. Olalekan Olumuyiwa Fadolapo; President of AAAN & CEO of X3M Ideas, Steve Babaeko; Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, Thisday Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena amongst other dignitaries.
Thanking BON, John said, “I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to members of BON for believing in my vision and finding me worthy to be elected as Chairman of BON. I thank you for the honour and wish to assure you that I will use my best endeavours in achieving our collective vision for BON.”
He went further to promise that his administration would, among other things, prioritize the growth and betterment of the members of the organisation.
“We wish to restate our commitment to sourcing for training opportunities for BON members, to deepen their technical knowledge and competence skills. Working with local and foreign partners, we will facilitate training opportunities for our member stations.
“This training programme should commence in the first quarter of 2022, and we are looking at providing training opportunities for 1,000 members in the first year and to scale it up in the second year.”
Congratulating the newly inducted chairman, Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, said, “We have no doubt that during this new term, we will see a lot of improvement in the industry especially in terms of professionalism. If anyone is in the best position to do this, it is the newly sworn-in chairman.”
John Ugbe emerged as the Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria following a keenly contested election at the 75th General Assembly and 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BON which took place in Kano State earlier this month.
Established in 1973, BON is Nigeria’s umbrella union of public and private broadcasters from across the analogue and digital spectrums.
