Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, shortly after its passage by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Fubara assented to the bill on Thursday at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, describing the appropriation as a “breath of fresh air.”

The budget, tagged “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” was passed earlier in the day by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly after lawmakers reviewed and amended some provisions of the governor’s original proposal.

The governor had presented a ₦1.854 trillion budget proposal to the Assembly on July 10, representing a 24.5 per cent increase over the revised 2025 budget.

Speaking shortly after signing the bill, Fubara expressed optimism that the 2026 budget would usher in a new phase of development and strengthen cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

He also assured the lawmakers of his administration’s commitment to maintaining a cordial working relationship with the Assembly.

The governor said the implementation of the budget would help drive growth and development across Rivers State.

    Details later.
