Five Killed, Three Injured in Bandit Attack in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed that five people were killed and three others injured during a bandit attack on communities in Kebbe Local Government Area of the state.

The attack occurred on Thursday evening, September 3, in Girkau community and other settlements within Girkau Ward.

Residents also reported that several people were abducted and cattle were rustled during the attack.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said five people lost their lives while three others sustained injuries.

“Five persons were killed, three others were injured, while unspecified animals were rustled in the attack,” Rufai said.

He added that the police were still gathering information about the incident, including the number of residents who may have been abducted.

“We are still gathering information on the incident, including the number of people who may have been abducted. Further details will be made available as they emerge,” he said.

The latest attack comes amid growing security concerns in Kebbe LGA, where residents have reportedly experienced repeated attacks, abductions and cattle rustling.

The incident also occurred days after reports that bandits allegedly imposed a N40 million levy on residents of Kebbe town on Tuesday afternoon.

The police, however, did not confirm the alleged levy in their latest statement.

Rufai assured residents that the police and other security agencies remained committed to protecting lives and property in the area.

“The police and other security agencies remain committed to protecting the lives and property of the people. We will continue to respond to security threats and work with communities to ensure their safety,” he said.
