Fidelity Bank Plc has commemorated the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with a debate competition for female secondary school students, held at the Fidelity SME Hub in Gbagada, Lagos.
The event, tagged “She Leads Debate Competition,” featured students from six schools debating the topic: “In today’s world, is digital literacy more essential for girls than traditional life skills?”

Speaking at the event, the Divisional Head, Product Development, Osita Ede, represented by Harriba Harry-Pepple, Head of Women Banking, said the initiative was part of the bank’s commitment to empowering girls through its HerFidelity programme.
“This debate is a platform for young girls to express their ideas, challenge norms, and showcase their intellectual strength,” Ede said.
Chizaram Unachukwu of Cedec International School emerged winner and received N500,000. Nwatu Chidera of Brookstones and Best Brains International School was first runner-up with N300,000, while Chizaram Ekueme of Awesome College placed third, receiving N150,000.

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on Oct. 11, promotes the empowerment of girls and the fulfillment of their rights.
