FG Denies Planning to Stop Youths from Leaving Nigeria

The Federal Government on Sunday denied a report that it has plans to stop Nigerian youths from traveling out of the country.

A statement signed by the Ministry of Interior, Director of Press, Blessing Lere-Adams, said contrary to reports, no committee was set up to stop youths from going abroad.

DAILY POST had reported that the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, directed the committee to work with the Citizenship and Business Department of the ministry on Expatriate Quota.

He was quoted as saying, “I believe this will go a long way in dissuading them from looking for greener pastures outside the shores of the country.”

However, Lere-Adams maintained that Nigerians were free to travel to countries of their choice through legal means.

“What the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, said when he received the team from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, can be succinctly put thus:

“The Permanent Secretary did not say any Nigerian who is willing and ready to follow the legal channels to travel, should not do so.”
