FEC scraps Niger Delta and sports ministries, merges culture and tourism ministries – Ravenewsonline

Federal Executive Council (FEC) has announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development.

The decision was made during a council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, disclosed the development in a statement.

He revealed that the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports Development would be transferred to the National Sports Commission (NSC), which will now oversee sports activities across the nation.

In place of the Ministry of Niger Delta, the newly established Ministry of Regional Development will now be responsible for managing all regional development commissions.

These include the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Northwest Development Commission (NWDC), Southwest Development Commission (SWDC), and Northeast Development Commission (NEDC).

The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, in a move aimed at streamlining governance and improving efficiency in these sectors.

Before the FEC meeting commenced, President Tinubu administered the oath of office to Abdullahi Bello, the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Bello will oversee the bureau’s operations, focusing on upholding ethical standards and combating corruption within the public sector.

In his remarks following the swearing-in ceremony, Bello emphasized that Nigeria has the necessary systems and institutions to address corruption.

He pledged to fulfill the bureau’s mandate of ensuring integrity in public office and preventing corrupt practices.

The restructuring of ministries and agencies signals President Tinubu’s continued efforts to streamline government operations and improve service delivery across critical sectors.
