Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested a woman, Mrs Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour following an argument over the use of a shared compound space in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
The suspect was subsequently arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Adeh, the Lugbe Police Division received a report on September 6, 2026, from a resident identified as Gift Amos, who alleged that she had an argument with Monday on September 4.
The police spokesperson said the disagreement allegedly escalated when Monday poured a pot of boiling water on Amos’s back, leaving her with serious burns and other injuries.
Adeh said preliminary investigations indicated that the dispute arose over the use of a shared portion of the compound.
According to the police statement, the victim had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from the stove to the section of the compound allocated to her.
The action allegedly angered Monday, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident, according to the police.
Adeh said the suspect had been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until September 16, 2026.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disputes.
Sanusi also cautioned residents against resorting to self-help or violence during disagreements and other challenging situations.
He advised members of the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
